An off-loom weaving with an experimental ‘frame’ structure, stretched between two walls, twenty feet apart, and displayed only the warp. For me, the intrigue with weaving lies in the in-between spaces of the fabric where the viewer can see through the thread. The continuous line, uninterrupted by weft permits for more negative space, allowing for the viewer to experience more transparency.
The loom-installation investigates this partial obstruction, a barrier that is created between the spectator and what’s beyond the thread - communicating both ephemerality and fragility.
I am captivated by line especially conveyed through weaving, as visual artist Gertrud Louise Goldschmidt (Gego) would phrase it, ‘line as object’.
The repetitive three-dimensional lines further add visual rhythm, creating moments that can connote to the ‘boundless’.
